Salmon Arm OCP Engagement

Celebrating creativity, diversity and inclusivity in long-range planning.

THE CHALLENGE

The City of Salmon Arm is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP). The update aims to ensure the Plan reflects community priorities and trends and prepares for the City's challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

THE RESPONSE

MODUS led community engagement in part of the OCP Update, which aimed to hear from diverse community voices through accessible and varied opportunities to participate.

Over the four phased-project, engagement included three public surveys, multiple public pop-ups hosted by Youth Ambassadors, workshops with community organizations and interest holders, celebratory public events like the Futures Fair and OCP Showcases, and a series of 'go-to-them' events to engage with youth, Indigenous peoples, peoples with disabilities, renters, and newcomers and refugees in Salmon Arm. Engagement was supported by a public awareness campaign designed to make participation in the OCP process fun, relatable, and accessible to new audiences.

A comprehensive What We Heard Report summarizes the inputs received over the four phases, which has informed the new Draft OCP. The Draft OCP is anticipated to be adopted in summer 20205.
