Shaping the Future of Britannia Community Centre Through Many Perspectives and Voices.
THE CHALLENGE
Britannia project partners (Britannia Community Services Society, City of Vancouver, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Vancouver Public Library and Vancouver School Board) have been working with the community to renew the Britannia Community Services Centre (BCSC) and the ~17 acre site it sits on.
THE RESPONSE
The MODUS team supported the City of Vancouver and its partners with community and stakeholder engagement to inform the first phase of the rezoning process where activities were designed to develop the values and principles that should guide the Britannia Renewal. MODUS facilitated a range of activities including pre-interviews to inform the Engagement Strategy, listening sessions with various user groups and organizations at Britannia (ranging from seniors, youth, families, Indigenous community members), public workshops on non-market housing on site and programming, a virtual open house (with a site mapping activity, questionnaire, and opportunity for story sharing), and a public showcase event where group representatives presented their perspectives on the Britannia Renewal followed by small group discussions. Details on the engagement process are documented in the Summary Report on the project webpage.
