Envisioning the Future of Parklands in Moody Centre.
THE CHALLENGE
The City of Port Moody has developed a parkland strategy to guide long-term planning for parkland throughout Port Moody over the next 25 years. The Parkland Strategy provides a framework for decision-making and prioritization of investment in existing and new parkland such as parks, greenways, natural areas, and public open spaces.
Port Moody’s population is expected to grow to approximately 71,800 by 2050, with significant increases in Moody Centre, among other neighbourhoods. The City expressed a desire to take a closer look at current and future parkland needs in Moody Centre, using the city-wide draft Parkland Strategy’s framework to explore how park services could be delivered.
THE RESPONSE
To support finalization and implementation of the parkland strategy, MODUS supported the City in planning and facilitating a Town Hall and Community Dialogue in May 2025. The purpose of the event was to explore the goals laid out in the strategy and consider specific conditions and needs for Moody Centre. The MODUS team hosted a public Q&A session and facilitated hands-on activities and roundtable discussions at different stations where participants provided feedback on topics related to the strategy.
Input received from participants was considered as staff refined the Draft Parkland Strategy and will be considered during the Strategy’s implementation as well as updates to the Official Community Plan (OCP).
