SFU Vibrancy Playbook

Creating a campus where all feel a sense of belonging.

THE CHALLENGE

After many semesters of remote learning starting in 2020, campus life returned to Burnaby Mountain in the fall of 2021. To welcome back students, staff, and faculty, and to plan for the next decade of campus life, SFU needed to develop a plan for community vibrancy.

THE RESPONSE

Simon Fraser University (SFU) worked with MODUS Planning, Design and Engagement to develop an SFU Burnaby Community Vibrancy Playbook that rolls out a vision for the Burnaby Mountain campus and community to identify near and longer-term initiatives. The Vibrancy Playbook provides direction towards the continuation of a welcoming, inspiring, and animated campus where all feel a sense of belonging. MODUS facilitated online workshops and multiple one-on-one interviews with stakeholders. We also collected over 100 ideas online through Wayblaze, an online ideas exchange platform. The final deliverable is a graphically rich and inspirational document reflecting the input of the community.
